Why Businesses Need To Step Up Their Photography Game: 5 Tips & Tricks

Welcome back! We are officially launching "Why Wednesday's" over on our Facebook. Theresa, the owner and awesome boss of Angelstorms Photography will be live streaming the Why's we tend to get asked as photographers, and her answers to them. I linked it down below for anyone interested.

Photography on Social Media

In this post we will be covering some tips and tricks for any businesses out there on how to step up their photography game. We tend to think that mediocre content is worse than no content at all. Everyone knows social media is king, but don't be a joker...

Tip #1: Make Time For It

Photography is an art, and it's everywhere... People are photoshopping dragons into images and making it look real. That's your competition. Your clients/potential clients see gorgeous imagery every day so if yours doesn't make the cut, well they might just keep on scrolling.

So don't snap a quick pic and move on, take the time to learn the basics. Then schedule in some time to do it right.

Tip #2: Do It Right

At this point you've googled some Photography 101 tips, pulled out your nice camera phone, and are about to take the shot. One simple but important tip is... to make sure you camera lens is clean. You can get some cheap microfiber cloths off Amazon (paper towels will scratch your lens) and clean that puppy right up.

Once your lens is clean, frame the shot, make sure the light is hitting it just right, and take several pictures.

Tip #3: Edit Your Photos

At this point you're ready to edit your photos. An important but often skipped step. We recommend the Lightroom app, which offers some basic free features to non-subscribers. You can download it on your phone or iPad and easily adjust as needed.

Tip #4: If It's Not Your Strength, Hire A Photographer

Now we didn't make this whole post just to talk you into hiring us (although hey if you need us, we're here). However, social media is so important that sometimes you have to know when to hand over the reins. Some photographers even an offer a package where managing your social media is included, and it's far more affordable than you think.  (And hey, we might know someone who does that too... ;) Back in the day people paid tons of money for radio ads, television ads, etc. Consider doing the same.

Tip #5: If You Can't Afford A Photographer & You Suck At Photography Use Free Stock Photos

Now with this tip it is key that you use stock websites that are "Free For Commercial Use." Meaning you have full permission from the owner to use their photography (aka not downloading off of Google Images). The upside of this is the website usually has a curated look. All the photos are done by professionals, are high quality, and are free to download.
