Why Do Photographers Cost So Much

Hello again! Welcome back to another post, we're so happy to have you. Today we are following along the same lines as our last post, talking about the "why's" behind photography. As you know, we do a Wednesday Why over on our Facebook every week. You can view it down below

So today we are going to talk about why photographers costs so much and why what we do is not just a hobby...

#1 We Have Tons Of Equipment

As professionals who do a vary of niches we have tons of gear. That includes: SD cards, cameras, lenses, lens filters, professional lighting, reflectors, and much more. Plus we have to have a computer that can process hundreds of photos and we have to have programs like Lightroom, Photoshop, and more.

#2 We Have Overhead Just Like Other Businesses

This varies for every photographer but the standard is usually an iPad with an internet subscription for client organization, etc. Plus we have permits, liability insurance, iPhone app subscriptions, etc. Some photographers even have office space they rent and of course we have annual business fees for keeping our LLC going.

#3 We Pay Taxes Too

Not a fun subject at all but our profit gets taxed, which we have to consider when charging prices. It's far more than most people expect. We have to pay self employment taxes and taxes for our business.

#4 We Are Always Expanding Our Education

Whether this is paying for courses, going to conferences, or doing things online we are always trying to be better. There's a lot of editing styles and in camera hacks that we are always trying to learn.

#5 Our Time

We are offering you our expertise, passion, and eye for detail. Along with all the details above, we are offering you a well rounded experience that is worth your time and money.

#6 We Spend Way More Time On It Than You Think

We touched on this in another post but in a nutshell we spend far more of our time on a shoot than it looks like. We spend time looking for inspiration, planning/coordinating, answering questions, prepping gear, going to the shoot, photographing everybody, and then spending tons of times editing. Funny enough, shooting photos is what we spend the least amount of time on.

Well that about wraps it up folks! Hope you enjoyed this blog post. Please follow us on Facebook for daily updates.
